I spend about 12 days every July camping on Otsego Lake near Gaylord. Big water, full of weed beds with walleye in the weeds. I've been frustrated trying to get to these wallies. What technique would you use to get em out? I fish the river and Lake Erie where weeds are usually not an issue.

I'm thinking that too with just a splitshot. Just not sure they'll rise for the bait? But the mailman did bring them yesterday. I'll bring you a pack!!

I know a few guys that have great success on the river longlining harnesses/split shot over the tops ofg the weed beds and do very well.  I would think that it would work on inland waters as well.   Maybe bouncers or 3 ways back trolling along the edges of the weed beds  http://dwfonline.com/Articles/another_way_to_bounce_a_bait.htm

Alot of times you have to go right into the weeds after fish like that.  1/8 and 1/4 oz jigheads tipped with a leech and casted into weed transition lines (usually at a drop off).  position your boat so you can fancast into the weeds.  pop and rip the jig through the weeds. Also, polarized sunglasses may aid you in spotting  transition lines in calm water.  Hope this helps.
