I've been up at my in-laws place in Houghton Lake for the past week. The weather pretty much sucked for most of the week so fishing conditions weren't ideal but I still managed to catch fish every time I went out. High winds, storms, & 3 different cold fronts out of the north tossed my boat around. My boat got tossed around so much that parts of it were falling off. My old POS depth finder was turning on by itself & other times wouldn't turn on at all. I need to get off my lazy arse & put my new one on. One of the storms that came through caused some small water spouts to start to form. That was pretty cool to see.
The first day out my son caught 6 walleye in the first hour, none bigger than 15 1/2". He kicked the old man's butt pretty good on the walleye. I mainly caught LM & SM all in the 15" to 16 1/2" range along with my new personal best crappie that was just a tad over 13". With all the high winds & storms there were floating weeds all over the lake so almost every cast came back in with weeds on the lure. I tried vertical jigging in a new spot (11 to 15 fow) just to avoid hooking weeds & it paid off with several small walleye & some LM.
It figures that the day I leave for home (a day earlier than planned) the weather improved. The story of my life.
