Dad and I went to Manistee last Friday to try our luck with the Salmon. It was the first time I had ever fished there and the first time for my Dad since 1960. We got a late start since my Dad got lost driving over so we didn't get on the water until 7:30 am. We picked up one 15 pound male in 40 feet of water in front of the dunes on a blue/silver jointed J-plug. After that it was nothing.
Hung around the fish cleaning station for awhile and it was pretty much the same for all the guys fishing the mouth. 1 or 2 fish per boat. Out in deeper water they were getting limits 55 to 60 feet down in 150 to 200 feet of water.
Went out again in the evening and we didn't catch anything. We'll try again another weekend.

Nice Fish.
Did it come on a downrigger or a dipsey, or lead core.
First year I have not made the trip over there in a while. Have done most of my salmon fishing in Pentwater/Ludington.

Truthfully I was going to add in my previous reply if you caught it Handlining the pier heads, and what length of leader and lure did you use, to see what you would say.

| Don't laugh....it's bound to happen. I've already tried handlining at the mouth of the AuSable.

If you were ever going to try it, the pier heads are the place to be now.

Way to get back into the big water salmon game, some days the conditions are just tough, sounds like you guys did well, good job.
Bill Bell has caught several salmon hand lining in the St. Claire river in the early spring. I'm sure others have too.
