I'm currentley living in Chicago waiting for the Coho's to start running but I'll be home in downriver towards the end of next week and the weekend. Is there any good / popular spots for pulling some walleye in from the shoreline? If so What's the most basic rig I should make sure I head out there with? Thanks for any input out there.
I don't know of any but I copied these from another website forum:
4 actually. the foot of rosa parks is a kinda nasty place but the river is deep and the walleye are there in april/may.take I-75 to the rosa parks exit . go south till it looks like you are going on private property ,but are not. it goes right to the river . walk the wall to the left and hang your rod over the side and jig like you are in a boat. there is a big tree about a couple hundred feet down . thats the spot as well as right where the road ends. you can park right there.
there is a park behind the old free press building down jefferson a bit thats a stones throw to the bridge. i forget the name of it. nice benches and plenty of area to toss a perch type rig while you jig the wall.
tri-centenial park. right at chene park. take I-375 to jefferson east to st. aubin street. park in the lot on your right as st. aubin ends.across the road from the watermark models.straight across the street is the pathway to the fishing area.
i forgot a new one . gabriel richard plaza. just east of the belle isle bridge. haven't fished it yet.
Some of the shore fishing places I was going to send you to on the Upper Detroit River are in not the safest neighborhoods for adults, much less a 15 year old angler.
Algonac, St. Clair, Marysville and Port Huron are all good places to catch walleyes from shore on the St. Clair River.
On the Lower Detroit River you may want to try Elizabeth Park, Mud Island or the Wyandotte Pier.
A good shore spot is in Ecorse at John Dingell Park on Jeferson & Southfield Rd. Mud Island is across from the park. You can get bait/tackle at Dip Net B&T across the street from the park. Night time is best for walleye. Lots of perch there as well.

As stated above, John Dingell Park would be one of the better spots. Out in front of the Ren Cen would be another.
