anyone who plans on fishing the canadian waters should read this info put out after a meeting 3/05/08.  michigan border patrol has not stated how they plan on enforcing the rules. ohio is set.. cross over and you need a I-68 and passport for each person or report by video phone..

Anyone going to canadian waters to fish needs to look at the post mike barkley has up. There is alot of confusion as to the requirments based upon the threads posted. Again if you do not set on land or anchor (calling on a port) you do not have to report in. But you will need two forms of identification with you. First being identification such as a Drivers License. Second is proof of citizenship, Birth Cirtificate is one form.

There can not be different requirments if your crossing through from Lake Erie or the Detroit River.

There are NO state Border Patrols!  There is the U.S. Border Protection Service of the Dep't of Homeland Securty.   Here is the info right from the Cheif Agent for them and their website.  If you do not LAND, Anchor or tie up with another vessel in Canadian waters, You have NOT left the U.S.  and no forms are needed to cross back and forth between American/Canadian waters while fishing or boating.  They will be at the June meeting to explain and answer questions http://dwfforum.mywowbb.com/forum6/61.html

well mike and bob, if you run into the guys we did, they will tell you your wrong in your statements.  they don't want to hear about what your interpretation of the rules are... they are in charge and they made sure a few of us won't be crossing over and coming back again.

Tom, I keep a copy of the laws/requirements downloaded from the DHS website with me at all times just for those occasions. This way THEY can't interpret them any other way.
