 I like to do it all. Handlining is my roots. Jigging is the newest method to me and big lake trolling I have about 35 yrs experience.

Handlining is a method of catching walleyes that is pretty much unique to the Detroit and St. Clair rivers. A spring loaded reel holds the wire and your hand holds onto the line which is attached to a 1 1/4 pound weight and a couple of leaders with lures. The hand controls the weight bouncing on the bottom and when a fish is hooked the wire is brought in hand over hand and the reel keeps up the slack.
If you want to learn more about it come to the April meeting, the topic that night will be all about getting started handlining.

Ed,
Handlining is a method of walleye fishing for those that are "Rod challenged" LOL! While very effective, practitioners of this anomaly may be of questional character!!!!!!!!!

I really prefer jigging in river, although I started handlining last year!
On the big water I troll small inline planers(cant stand driftin and castin)
Over all jigging and trollng rule for me in that order but I will fish any way
I can to put fillets in the freezer!

trolling in the fall. i love the challenge of finding the trophy's ( and the weather)
june around stoney pointe is a close second, so many fish , just pure fun
