| Myself, and others that I know that use snubbers use them on the short leader, which is usually the third or bottom leader. It acts as a shock absorber because there isn't much give on 5 feet of 20lb line. It helps to keep the lures hooks from ripping out and losing the fish.

| I haven't, I have some in the boat I just can't seem to bring myself to trying one on my short leader. No special reason, just don't seem to bother with it. Probably because I was never too impressed with them when my father and I used them on dipsey's salmon fishing.

| I feel the same way about putting them on. So far I do not hear any negatives on the snubbers. I hope to get a few more thoughts on this, even a thumbs up or down from the veteren HL's.

| Well the one thing I am going to try this year is I replaced all those weak factory hooks on my Rap's with Mustad triple grip hooks. I didn't lose a lot of fish because of them but enough to try switching hooks. WHether or not a snubber would have helped to prevent that I really don't know.

| i use them during the times of bigger fish. i've lost to many big ones with the heavy head shakes tearing the hooks out. this year i had some custom made at 4 inches long from amish outfitters (frank). they are pretty easy to make on your own if you'd like. mac lures has some that are about 3 inches long. if your ever going to run mini dipsys your going to need them for that also. the bigger fish can absolutley tear/rip off even with soft tipped rods. you don't really lose much if any feel that i've noticed.

I like to brand my style of handlining "Finesse Handlining"
Rather than using snubbers or leaders tied from mason or mono larger than 20lb test. I prefer to use 12lb leaders. The 12lb mono yields more then enough stretch which I would get trying to run snubbers. Keep the leader length down to 8' on your lowers and 18' on the uppers and you should not have any problems.
I run 10lb mono on all my trolling reels for the lake and never had problems with break off's or line failures running Magnum Hot-N-Tots at speeds faster than handlining.
Since my leaders are thinner in diameter I can also fish the deeper areas of the river without using a heavier weight. You are not dealing with drag or resistance created with the thicker line and snubbers.

Interesting idea but isn't the 12lb hard on your hands? I use small snubbers (6") on lower lead and use only Mason Hard Line.

Lunapier,
Nope. I only run it early and then switch to 20 LB Trilene as the season progresses and the water warms. Personally I do not like Mason for leaders.
You can try it with 14lb if your concerned about the line being rough on your fingers.
